A Long Hauler’s Garden

A Long Hauler’s Garden

Peonies and freesia gently pervaded the air,
while bluebells rang and hydrangeas blossomed.
As the lake glistened with moonlight,
the world was at peace, only exposing its concealed beauty.
Lush moss danced underneath my feet amongst the comforting warmth of the stars,
shining light across my cheeks.
Monsters lurking within the shadows are never a fear,
only gentle creatures emerge out of the darkness.
An embodiment of peace existed as the forest,
creating a rare state of tranquility between my body and soul forms.

Cobblestone walls surrounded the forest,
where only refreshing water seeped through the stones.
Wisteria and ivy crept out from each and every crevice between the stones,
with vines thickening after each ER visit,
providing another barrier of protection in hopes of offering me solace.
The temporary relief accessed only through my fanciful garden abruptly ends,
as an unsettling pit of aggravation within my stomach begins to consume me.
I fall through, holding back tears with the replacement of smiles and nods.
Once again, I was thrown out of my mystical escape, as the doctors all swarm me with questions.
Yet each unable to provide an answer.

The air violently returns to rubbing alcohol burning my nose,
as if the sweet scent of golden honey ceased to exist.
No one hears my pleas for help, as I bang on the doors that once protected me,
watching wisteria crumble and hoping for a chance to return.
A most turbulent banish was in order, but why for me?
“Thank you for your time” I whispered leaving the hospital,
but inside, my mind travelled back to my secret escape where hope still remained and a glimpse of serenity thrived.
