World Fest In-Person Once Again
Join our school community on March 12th and celebrate together
For the first time since 2019, World Fest – BASIS Independent Brooklyn community’s annual celebration of the many cultures that strengthen our school – will be held in person on Saturday, March 12th from 1-3 p.m. National Honor Society planned and led the event with the help of the Leadership Club. Students chose countries and cultures to represent, they organized an array of different presentations, foods, and art, showcasing a wide variety of cultures. The event will even include honoring our Red Hook community.
World Fest presents both the perfect opportunity for strengthening our school community and continuing in-person celebrations that were not feasible during the pandemic; lower school events like our Halloween mixer, pre-comp pizza party, ice and roller skating mixers, along with many others, have again become an integral part of BASIS Independent Brooklyn that we can continue to look forward to. Comparatively larger than these gatherings, as it is open to all grade levels, teachers, and families, World Fest maintains its place as one of the most important traditions at BASIS Independent. Students did their best to continue it remotely in the midst of quarantine last year. Students and families joined virtual Zoom links and watched several presentations on different cultures. There were even special cooking tutorials held over Zoom. Despite its virtual success, however, an even-better World Fest celebration can be expected.
This year, World Fest will expand. High schoolers have the option of making global affairs posters that connect a variety of countries to an intercontinental perspective or idea, along with the option of assembling presentations on Red Hook and its influence. Another addition is an art display which will exhibit internationally-inspired student art. This year’s World Fest will raise the bar for future events.
All members of the BASIS Independent Brooklyn community are encouraged to enjoy the event and are also more than welcome to participate in the presentations! See you on Saturday, March 12th!
