Letter from the Editor-in-Chief

Over the last three years at BASIS Independent Brooklyn, it’s been my pleasure leading The Grizzly Team and watching our paper grow. We began as a publication that wrote occasionally and evolved into a regular phenomenon that helps to nurture our community. Now, we’ve won two silver medals from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and earned the respect of fellow students and the administration.

Our success would not have been possible without the dedicated writers and editors that make up our team. They embody the bravery, skills, and persistence that are required to succeed in journalism. While much of our staff is interested in pursuing fields in the humanities, we’ve had writers and editors who are interested in mathematics, physics, biology, and engineering. The Grizzly team is truly a place for all.

The Grizzly has been committed to learning, following, and teaching the standards of professional journalism as well as possible. I’m proud of the wonderful writing that’s been published in our paper and of the amazing accolades that our writers have earned through The Grizzly. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve published 150+ articles since The Grizzly’s first release in 2020.

I’m delighted to welcome The Grizzly’s incoming Editor-in-Chiefs, Samantha G.’24 and Laila G.’24. Their journalistic flair stands out, and I’m confident they will help raise our paper to even greater heights. I would like to thank our wonderful faculty advisor Ms. Goldfarb whose advice and guidance have been instrumental in furthering our school’s journalism program. Thank you to the community for reading and supporting our publications.

Sincerely,

Sidharth R., Class of 2022
