As another school year draws to a close, we pause to honor the graduating seniors who have dedicated countless hours to developing interesting stories, reviews, and opinion pieces written with carefully chosen words. These student journalists connected through a shared interest in writing stories about what they love. However, our seniors leave behind more than their articles and bylines. They depart with a legacy of integrity, creativity, and an understanding that journalism is fundamentally about service to our community.
Here’s a look back at some of their best work this school year.
Gustavo P. ‘25
As Co-editor-in-chief of The Grizzly for the 2024-2025 school year, Gustavo found his voice writing strong music reviews while also venturing into editorial topics. If you have not read his series on Charlie XCX’s Guts, then you have to. It captures a moment from before the presidential election that continues to resonate.
- Music Review: Charlie XCX’s brat – September 3, 2024
- brat summer – September 3, 2024
Gustavo also delved into the importance of “writing” in the senior year of high school, given all the college essays requiring deep introspection. The resulting opinion piece is a must-read for rising seniors and lays out why it is a crucial skill to know how to write.
- Write Here, Write Now – October 31, 2024
Skye S. ’25
Co-editor-in-chief Skye honed in on her love of fashion and researching the darker side of the industry this year. She was particularly intrigued by the high cost of fast fashion on the environment and how trends drive consumption.
- 20 Years or Less? The Shortening of Fashion’s Trend Cycle – December 6, 2024
- The Fast Fashion “Design Process” – October 11, 2024
Skye and Gustavo also collaborated on a great opinion piece that gets to the heart of why TikTok is not good for youth. It was published in the throes of the on-again, off-again ban.
- The Real Reason TikTok Should be Banned – February 7, 2025
Victor B. ‘25
Contributing writer Victor teamed up with Gustavo on a great article delving into the history of college mascots, which became a bit of an obsession for our Grizzly seniors while researching colleges. Official and unofficial college mascots were a big topic of discussion during weekly pitch meetings.
- The History of College Mascots – March 7, 2025
Victor penned a great series of science articles, from his two-part series on gene therapy to an exploration of the huge hidden costs of large language models.
- Gene Therapy: New Field with Promising Future – December 13, 2024
- Understanding Gene Therapy – November 18, 2024
- Large Language Models Carry Enormous Energy Consumption and Cost – October 25, 2025
Aidan L. ‘25
Music writer Aidan spent the year sharing his love of indie bands with our school community in his “Indie Enthusiasm” series. His tributes to Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, and Interpol show his deep interest in their discography, reflecting a true appreciation for their work. I’m sure the articles inspired at least a few new fans among his fellow students.
- Indie Enthusiasm: Interpol – March 21, 2025
- Indie Enthusiasm: Franz Ferdinand (no, not the archduke) – December 6, 2024
- Indie Enthusiasm: Arctic Monkeys – September 20, 2024
Seniors, remember to drop us a line here at the Grizzly every now and then. Keep writing and reporting. Share with us the articles you write for your college news sites. You made your mark here, and we will carry on the legacy you leave behind with pride.
