After a grueling back-and-forth between the Bears and Unity Prep in the Varsity Volleyball team’s first home game, our team pulled ahead with a point lead in the first half of their first game — “netting” them their first-round win on home turf! Alexa G. (7) came out swinging in the second round, hitting her iconic low-flying serve perfectly in a devastating onslaught and solidifying an unbelievable 15-point lead herself alone! A vicious minute-long rally ended her brutal swinging, only to bring team co-captain Indi S. #27 onto serve. In the end, the Bears wiped the floor with an incredible 25-6 point final score.
In the second match, the Bears faced a bit of a bind, tying up with Summit Academy at 16-16, but eventually winning the set. A seemingly worrying lead against them in the second game was quickly squashed by newcomers Charlotte L. (9) and Mira A. (3)’s dangerous serves. A few close calls from the referee and some inspired chants later, and the Bears had emerged with an undefeated win streak!
“We had a killer start to the season, but we’ll continue to home in our skills and give it our best effort,” remarked co-captain Yuna S. (10).
Coach Mason “[thanks] everyone for coming out to support us this week!”
Hopefully, more of our students show up at the next home games on Thursday, October 12th at 4:20 and 6:00 p.m. to give the Bears an invigorating cheer! Go Bears!
