This NFL season made history, with one of the best rookie and quarterback performances of all time!
Season Recap
We had a rollercoaster of an NFL season with clear winners and losers. There was a lot of variation in the teams this year, with teams being either amazing or terrible in terms of play. The two teams expected to play in the Super Bowl were the Lions and the Bills. However, the ultimate Super Bowl winners were the Eagles, who beat the Chiefs 40-22 in the final brawl.
Playoffs Recap
This year the playoffs weren’t as exciting as past years, but we had some lows, high-scoring games, and outstanding players. Some of the most notable games were the Commanders’ 45-31 win over the Lions, where Jayden Daniels– the Commanders’ QB– showed he is the future face of the league, and Jared Goff’s historic career, as the Lions’ QB, might be coming to an end. The Ravens’ 25-27 loss to the Bills showed how Lamar Jackson isn’t the same MVP-caliber quarterback when it comes to the playoffs. Lamar’s playoff record has fallen to 3-5 even though he has been seen as a top-five quarterback for the past few years. Finally, the Eagles’ 40-22 win in the Super Bowl over the Chiefs has officially ended the Chiefs’ two-year Super Bowl streak and it showed us that Jalen Hurts is a top five quarterback in the NFL, thus silencing his doubters.
New York Team Performance
New York has had some terrible returns with the NY Giants and NY Jets in the last few years. The Giants went 3-14 with the worst quarterback play in the league, their defense wasn’t terrible, but wasn’t good. The only good players on the team were their rookie wide receiver Malik Neibers and their fifth-round draft pick running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. For this year’s draft, most experts are saying the Giants will trade up from the third pick to the first and take quarterback prospect Cam Ward. The Jets were also a bottom-ten team in the NFL with a 5-12 record. Unfortunately, the Jets’ path to being good isn’t as clear, they have one of the oldest teams in the NFL, with 41-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers leading their team, along with 31-year-old Davante Adams. They do have some strong players like running back Breece Hall and Wide receiver Garret Wilson.
What to Watch for Next Season
This year had record-breaking rookies, including Jayden Daniels, who broke many statistical records and was the sixth rookie quarterback to make the conference championship round of the playoffs, but unfortunately, he wasn’t the first to win one. Some other rookies who had similar seasons are: Bo Nix, Drake Maye, Caleb Williams, Brian Thomas Jr., Malik Neibers, Brock Bowers, and Jared Verse.
Key Players & Teams This Season
Bryce Young: Last year, Bryce Young was being called one of the biggest draft busts in NFL history, but after being benched in week 3, he surprisingly turned it all around when he started playing like a top NFL quarterback.
CJ Stroud: CJ had an electric rookie season last year, and coming into this season, he was hyped to have an outstanding season playing alongside Texans star wide receiver Stephon Diggs. He did not have the season everyone thought he was going to have, but he looks to turn it around next season.
49ers: Last year the Niners had the most talented roster in the NFL and they made it to the Super Bowl last year. Going into the season, they were the favorites to win the Super Bowl, but by the end of the season they were 6-11 and at the bottom of the worst division in football. They still have some of the most talented in the NFL even though they traded Deebo Samuel, Niners WR, for a 5th-round pick.
Eagles Dynasty: The Eagles just won Super Bowl LIX, dominating the 15-2 Chiefs 40-22. They have an MVP-caliber running back, Saquon Barkley, a star quarterback with star receivers, and they have the strongest defense in the NFL. We could be witnessing the beginning of a dynasty, because the Eagles show no sign of dominating.
Lamar Jackson: Lamar Jackson had the best statistical regular season of his career, but he got the MVP snubbed from him by Josh Allen. Although he is showing excellence in the regular season, he hasn’t been as good in the postseason. To be considered an all-time great, he has to show that he can be great in all the season types.
Travis Hunter: Travis is a 2-way player, as he plays both offense and defense for the University of Colorado. While at Colorado, he was the best cornerback in college football and a top 10 receiver. If he can succeed at both cornerback and wide receiver, we could see a wave of players trying to play both offense and defense.
Looking ahead to next year, we will see if the Eagles can create a dynasty, and maybe the Giants and Jets can bounce back.
