In an effort to continue expanding girls’ sports at BASIS Independent Brooklyn, two sophomores came together to start a Varsity Basketball team. Sophie A. ‘28 and Lexi S. ‘28 have spent the past month gathering enough girls to form a basketball team that will compete this winter in the CPSAL league. Both girls have a background in basketball and are thrilled to be inspiring others to begin playing. 

Their first game is on January 14th against Coney Island Prep. If you are interested in joining the team, you can approach one of the Captains or Mr. Wekilsky, whose office is located on the first floor. They are still seeking members from 9th to 12th grade. 

The girls are super excited to get their season off to a positive start. Team Captain Sophia A. shared, “Basketball is more than just a sport — it shapes character, teamwork, and discipline. I’m thrilled to see girls’ sports continuing to grow at BASIS Independent Brooklyn.”
