When I think of high-end fashion boutiques, I think of areas such as Williamsburg and the East Village, which hold some of the city’s most famous and culturally relevant spaces.
Carroll Gardens is definitely not the first neighborhood that comes to mind.
Known for its famous restaurants and cafes, the cozy Brooklyn neighborhood is lined with endless rows of gracefully aging brownstones, which many emerging families occupy.
One of the newest additions to Carroll Gardens is Ven.Space, a multi-brand high fashion boutique located adjacent to Carroll Park. Following its grand opening last year in September, it has had a steady flow of customers on any given day. It has quickly grown to have its own in-house line, “VEN 11231,” and release events with brands such as Paraboot and Asics. The store carries many imported brands, especially from Japan. It focuses on minimalist luxury, with clothes and pieces made from heritage-quality materials.
The store immediately immerses you in its environment, with a natural woody fragrance and dim ambient lighting. Decorated with an array of pottery and a wide range of wooden objects, the store welcomes you in warmly.
Upon a quick glance at the clothes and accessories they carry, it becomes evident that rather than relying on seasonal trends, the pieces they carry are curated for a specific style of elevated minimalism.
They carry items from a wide range of brands, including the Belgian experimental brand Unkruid and the Japanese military repro brand Reproduction of Found, as well as popular designer brands Maison Margiela and Dries Van Noten.
Although it’s one-of-a-kind, Ven.Space fits right in Carroll Gardens, with its cozy atmosphere and welcoming environment. At a time when online shopping and quick impulse purchases dominate, I think it’s important to step back and appreciate stores that carefully curate their store environment and products, bringing retail shopping back to the experience.
