Every year, BASIS Independent Brooklyn seniors take part in a senior project, an opportunity that allows graduating students to explore their various interests in-depth through a research venture that they present to the school. It helps build seniors’ resourcefulness, allows them to work with researchers, and prepares them for college. It’s a rite of passage that is integral and unique to the BASIS Independent Schools experience. While there has been a downtrend in the number of seniors who have decided to take on the challenge over the years, the class of 2026 has proved that wrong, with over 96% of students pursuing it.
The class of 2026’s senior projects have been especially interesting. The overwhelming theme of their research is exploring the applications of medicine and AI. Their curiosities correlate to the many questions that we still have in the future regarding how AI can be utilized to improve lives, including in the field of medicine, due to the seemingly limitless possibilities it provides.
Some of our own staff at the Grizzly have even decided to explore these same topics. Ranging from delving into how AI can be used to find IRAE’s, investigating how olfactory factors can support memory in patients with Alzheimer’s, and analyzing how financial uncertainty in medical treatment impacts older adults.
We are looking forward to seeing what culminates from our seniors’ hard work pursuing this project. If you’re intrigued in discovering more about the class of 2026’s senior projects, you can go to the BASIS Independent Brooklyn website and read their projects here.
